From alumnus to retiree with a big impact

I appreciate the opportunities Terra State has provided me and am proud to be both an alumnus and now a retiree.

From alumnus to retiree, Lonnie Shuey has been instrumental in the success and development of numerous departments at the College.

Shuey graduated in 2010 with an Associate of Applied Science in music technology. After a 22-year career in sales management at Sherwin-Williams, Lonnie took the opportunity to enroll at Terra State and begin a new career.

“Music has always been a passion in my life and when I heard about the growing music department at Terra State I knew it was the place for me,” said Shuey.

Through his time as a student at Terra State, he learned that it is never too late to try or learn something new. He advises students to keep their eyes open to all opportunities, as they happen when you least expect it.

His journey as an employee at Terra State started in 2009, when he was hired as a music lab aide. Shuey served in numerous rolls in the following years including Music Academy instructor, music lab assistant, KidsCollege instructor and production coordinator. He helped organize numerous concerts and ensembles, both on campus and throughout the region.

In 2014, he transitioned to the roll of administrative coordinator for the Terra College Foundation. Shuey has been impactful in organizing countless events and fundraisers, implementing the new DonorPerfect online donor management system, serving as the assistant to the Foundation board of directors and kept the office moving forward in a positive direction.

Shuey will retire at the end of April 2021 from Terra State but his impact on the Foundation and its donors, board, employees and scholarship recipients will remain.

“I appreciate the opportunities Terra State has provided me and am proud to be both an alumnus and now a retiree,” said Shuey.

Shuey and his wife, Lisa, live, work, and volunteer within the community and at Terra State. Lisa is the current executive assistant to the president and board of trustees. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the drums, performing with his band, SeaJamz 7, and at Grace Community Church and serving as an officer for the Fremont Elks.
