Terra State Community College student Kaylee Duffey has been named the College’s Fremont Rotary Student of the Month for January 2021.

Duffey resides in Tiffin and graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School and Sentinel Career Center in 2017.

At Terra State, Duffey is studying medical assisting and phlebotomy. She chose a healthcare field because of her desire to work with people and the exciting nature of the career. Terra State became the perfect fit for Duffey because of the location, being close to home. She also enjoyed that there were healthcare programs other than just nursing.

“The experience that I will take with me after I leave Terra State is learning such great concepts for my future employment in medical assisting and phlebotomy. I will feel more confident in performing normal job duties when the time comes,” said Duffey.

Her nominator, Sarah Poore, adjunct instructor for medical assisting and phlebotomy, is proud of the hard work and consistent positive attitude Duffey brings to the classroom.

“Kaylee has consistently been that student you always see smiling. She is not afraid to chase her goals and she definitely knows what she wants for her future career. Kaylee brings real world knowledge and uses her past job experiences to enhance discussion in the classroom,” said Poore, “I think she is going to be a wonderful medical assistant and/or phlebotomist and I can't wait to see where her career takes her.”

Outside of class, Duffey is an STNA at St. Francis Home in the dementia unit and is involved with the Medical Assistant Student Organization (MASO).

“I am grateful for my mother, Christina Gibson, my grandmother, Wanda Reynolds, and my boyfriend, Taylor Conley for always pushing me to the limit with school because they wanted to see me succeed,” said Duffey, “My dog, Lacey has heard about all of my rants and relieved me from the stress that school carries.”

After graduation in May, Duffey hopes to continue as a medical assistant at a family medicine practice, working with the geriatric population. She also hopes to expand her passion for photography by potentially opening her own business.
