Michael named April Rotary Student of the Month
Terra State Community College student Samantha Michael has been named the College’s Fremont Rotary Student of the Month for April.
Michael is a College Credit Plus (CCP) student from Oak Harbor High School. She takes classes full-time at Terra State while maintaining involvement outside of classes at her part-time job.
Michael’s choice to attend Terra State was easy; it ran in her family. Her mother and sister were also students in the past. She heard from her mother about the great learning environment Terra State offered.
“After leaving Terra State, I will take the memories of all the opportunities I was given with me,” said Michael, “Being able to be enrolled in college classes at a younger age than most allowed me to experience things most of my peers have not. Not only did Terra State give me increased opportunities, but it also gave me a further range of traits that will help me with my success, such as responsibility and punctuality.”
At Terra State, Michael is taking classes towards a biology pathway, allowing her to graduate with an Associate of Science and transfer to a four-year institution. Her goal is to attend medical school and become a physician specializing in pediatrics. She is also involved in Phi Theta Kappa, Terra State’s honorary scholastic organization.
“I have always been interested in the sciences, especially biology. Not only do I enjoy learning about this subject, but it also will give me a good backbone for my future education,” said Michael.
Her nominator, adjunct instructor Dr. Zachary Rinkes, credits Michael for displaying academic excellence, professionalism and leadership skills in the classroom.
“She is a very careful thinker with an eye for detail, which will serve her well moving forward in the sciences,” said Rinkes, “Samantha not only strives to be a leader in the classroom but also outside of it. She believes community outreach and volunteerism are important aspects of growing personally and professionally.”
Michael will graduate this spring with her high school honors diploma from Oak Harbor High School and her Associate of Science from Terra State. After graduation, her plan is to study pre-medicine at the University of Findlay this fall.
