Summer classes offer opportunities

erra State Community College is encouraging area residents of all ages this summer to continue advancing their education and career plans through summer classes offered at the college’s nearby campus, or online.

There are many advantages to taking community college summer classes. Saving money on tuition and getting ahead in coursework are some of the most popular reasons for enrolling, according to Terra State’s admissions counselors.

“When students come home from university for summer break, seizing the opportunity to pick up summer classes and stay focused is always a wise idea,” said Jessica McCarthy, Dean of Enrollment Services at Terra State. “Keeping that momentum going and getting a math or English class out of the way, for example, is a great way to continue earning college credits at a lower cost and ensure you’ll be able to complete your four-year university degree on schedule.”

For those who work in the skilled trades and need to keep up with classes or certifications to advance their career or complete an apprenticeship, summertime can provide the opportunity to make arrangements with their employer to take classes, according to William Taylor, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Terra State.

“The college has an excellent rapport with many area companies and business leaders who are happy to support their team members’ efforts to advance their skills at Terra – and summer evening or weekend classes might be the best way to take those steps,” Taylor said.

Terra State Community College summer classes begin June 12 and run through the first week of August. Fall classes will begin August 21, 2023.
